Dr. Gale Burstein received the Outstanding Service Award at the 2025 MSCE Annual Gala. Dr. Burstein is the Erie County Health Commissioner, pediatrician and public health expert. This award recognizes exceptional dedication and service within the medical field, honoring individuals who have gone above and beyond in commitment to improving healthcare, advancing medical knowledge and supporting patients and colleagues in Erie County. 

Dr. Burstein has applied her skills as a pediatrician, a researcher, a scientist, and a manager to lead one of New York State’s largest health departments in New York State throughout the past 13 years. From navigating a global pandemic and opioid crisis to addressing gun violence, lead poisoning and winter storms, her steady leadership, intense focus, and commitment to positive systems changes have made our county a healthier place to live and work.
